Micrel Semiconductor Announces the Release of 12 New Product Families with More Than 20 New Products During the Second Quarter.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 1996--Continuing its industry leadership as a supplier of high performance analog power integrated circuits Power integrated circuits

in micro-miniature packages, Ray Zinn, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Micrel, today announced that 12 new product families consisting of more than 20 new parts were released to production during the second fiscal quarter.

In making the announcement, Zinn said, "Micrel's chosen markets are the OEMs who produce today's hand-held, portable, battery-powered electronic equipment such as wireless communications, cellular phones, portable computers, hand-held instruments, etc.

"These companies require analog ICs that provide power management features that extend battery life, and require the smallest possible package."

"Micrel currently supplies many of these needs in our IttyBitty(TM) 1/100th square inch packages. In the second quarter of 1996, we began releasing other Micrel parts in our new micro-miniaturized 8-lead, small-outline (SO) packages called the Micrel Mini8(TM) (MM8(TM))."

The MM8 is less than half the size of the current 8-lead SO package. The MM8 makes it possible for designers to further reduce system size and increase functionality within a given size.

"We entered an entirely new arena for Micrel with the introduction of our first operational amplifier (op amp). It is the MIC6211, an IttyBitty(TM) version of the industry workhorse, LM324. We expect the MIC6211 to be extremely useful to designers who need a general purpose op amp but prefer that it be available in the micro-miniature SOT-23-5 package.

"In our mainstream industry standard line of very low dropout regulators (LDOs), we introduced the industry's lowest noise LDO LDO Low-Dropout (Used With Regulators)

LDO Light Diesel Oil (petroleum)
LDO Local Development Officer (Nepal)

, the MIC5205. The MIC5206, a similar device, is equipped with an on-board monitor for power faults.

"Our third new LDO, the MIC5230 micro-current voltage regulator, is optimized at powering the clocks and backing up SRAMs in computers and powering standby functions in cellular telephones, instruments and other portable equipment."

Micrel released three new power switches for portable equipment and PCMCIA cards. They were the MIC2505 single, the MIC2506 dual and the MCI (1) (Media Control Interface) A high-level programming interface from Microsoft and IBM for controlling multimedia devices. It provides commands and functions to open, play and close the device.

2507 quad switches that replace separate high-side drivers and MOSFETs in a wide variety of low voltage applications in hand-held computers, instruments and telecommunications devices.

In addition, Micrel released the MIC2514 integrated high-side switch with a protected P-channel MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) The most popular and widely used type of field effect transistor (see FET). MOSFETs are either NMOS (n-channel) or PMOS (p-channel) transistors, which are fabricated as individually packaged , aimed at 3.3-volt to 18-volt power management and battery-charger applications.

"For higher power applications, we introduced the MIC38C4X family of four current-mode pulse-width modulator Modulator

Any device or circuit by means of which a desired signal is impressed upon a higher-frequency periodic wave known as a carrier. The process is called modulation. The modulator may vary the amplitude, frequency, or phase of the carrier.
controllers in the new MM8 package for high efficiency off-line power supplies. We also added one and two cell switching regulators that can operate down to as low as nine-tenths of a volt."

"All of our product introductions in the second quarter make significant contributions to our position as a leading supplier of high performance analog power ICs in the smallest possible packages. We believe that our customers and the industry have come to recognize and expect these types of product introductions from Micrel, and we intend to fulfill their expectations."
