Michael Holland Wins MP3.COM Award for Best Male Rock Artist; Singer/Songwriter Answers Question "Where is Gay Pop?".

Entertainment Editors

NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--June 1, 2001

In a time where the gay perspective is becoming more prevalent in television, film and books, the trend is rare in mainstream pop music.

With a recent rave review from Billboard Magazine, and the MP3.com's Blockbuster block·bust·er

City-based singer/songwriter Michael Holland is positioned to be a pioneer in this arena.

Holland's smart, versatile songwriting and ability to translate the gay perspective into a mass-appeal format is a primary reason publications like Billboard are "so fond of Michael Holland's self-made set, Darkness Falls." In a recent review, the magazine praised the four-octave vocalist's newest work by saying, "The unifying thread throughout the album is deft deft

songwriting that is, by turns, starkly confessional and smartly observational....Don't miss the chance to see this appealing, videogenic artist in the flesh."

The MP3.com Blockbuster Award, presented last month, places Holland with a diverse group of mainstream artists including Faith Hill, O-Town and Snoop Dogg. As a premiere source of music online, MP3.com represents a large cross-section of users. The organization's acknowledgment acknowledgment, in law, formal declaration or admission by a person who executed an instrument (e.g., a will or a deed) that the instrument is his. The acknowledgment is made before a court, a notary public, or any other authorized person.  reiterates the ability of Holland's songs to transcend the barriers of gay music and recreate the Will & Grace phenomenon in the popular music scene.

"I'm not aiming for the title of gay artist, but I am an artist who happens to be gay. So those themes are reflected in my work," says Holland, "although the feedback I get at shows and online tells me you don't have to be gay to `get it.' I'm not going for a niche audience. I'm trying to be as accessible as possible, on my own terms."

Darkness Falls is Holland's third album on the independent Miss Prim label, and is available at CDNOW.com and CDBABY.com. His anthem anthem [ultimately from antiphon], short nonliturgical choral composition used in Protestant services, usually accompanied and having an English text. The term is used in a broader sense for "national anthems" and for the Latin motets still used occasionally in  "Joey Stefano's Dead" is currently being remixed for club release and the upbeat rocker "Jump For You" is a favorite with online MP3 trading. The album received three GLAMA (Gay and Lesbian American Music Award The American Music Awards show is one of several annual major American music awards shows (among the others are the Billboard Music Awards, the Grammy Awards, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony). ) nominations including Best Male Artist and won a songwriting award from the Unisong International Competition.
