One of my best jobs was at CONSOL, due to the breadth of responsibility and quality of people I worked with. I managed the entire finance function, mergers and acquisitions, public and government affairs, systems and purchasing and was CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of a supply distribution company. Each day was different, unplanned and exciting. The chairman's trust and support was a great motivator, and the staff's desire to succeed was thrilling and rewarding."

Favorite Deal: "Working with a group of committed people during the past 18 months to successfully restructure Horizon Natural Resources, and helping to save roughly 4,000 jobs. We had to balance the interests of vulture funds, lenders, federal and state regulators, lawyers, employees, customers and suppliers.

We restructured roughly $1.5 billion in debt and secured roughly $400 million in surety bonds in an impossible market following September 11 and Enron. Our pre-packaged plan received a rare 100 percent approval; and was confirmed within six weeks. Now we are working to establish a culture focused on success through working safely, increasing profitability and reducing debt."
