"Systems based on proprietary UNIX architectures are at risk as standards-based systems continue to move up the enterprise computing food chain," Dell said. "It is clear that standards-based hardware and software, combined with the modular approach to computing, is the future of the enterprise data center."

The keynote will detail how over 22,000 customers in the past year have deployed Oracle databases on Dell standards-based server and storage systems. These customers, ranging from small-to-medium sized business to Fortune 500 companies, chose Dell and Oracle platforms to achieve up to 69 percent better performance and realize up to 84 percent less cost than proprietary platforms.

PowerPath provides data multi-pathing functionality and load balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them  from servers to storage, improving performance, enabling redundancy and eliminating single points of failure within the cluster.

New support for Dell EMC storage solutions will be available in December. Certified software support for OCFS and EMC PowerPath for Linux will be available in the first quarter of 2003. A two-node Dell cluster for Oracle9i Database with Real Application Clusters with Red Hat Linux Advanced Server starts at $16,000. Dell solutions for Oracle9i with Real Application Clusters are also available with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000.
