Meyer, Kai. The glass word.

MEYER, Kai. The glass word. (The Dark Reflections Trilogy, Book Three.) Simon & Schuster, Pulse. 282p. c2008. 0-689-87792-7. $8.99. JS

To quote the review of the hardcover in KLIATT, January 2008: In this sequel to The Water Mirror and The Stone Light, the final battle is on to free the enslaved city of Venice from the clutches of the Egyptian Empire and its army of undead soldiers. Merle, who has inside her the spirit of the Flowing Queen, and her friend Junipa, who has mirrors in place of her eyes, along with the winged stone lion Vermithrax, emerge from Hell and find themselves in Egypt. There everything is covered in snow: Winter has come, seeking his love, Summer. Seth, the Egyptian high priest, sets out with Merle and her friends to the Iron Eye, the fortress of the sphinxes. At the same time, Serafin the thief, accompanied by the sphinx Lalapeya and the mermaid Eft, travels in a pirate submarine to Egypt, and asks a sea witch for help in their battle. As in the other volumes in this dark, complex fantasy series, not everything is what it seems and not everyone can be trusted. Magic and mysteries abound, along with unusual characters. Those who have read the other books will be eager to see how it all comes out. Paula Rohrlick, KLIATT
