Metso receives numerous orders.


METSO RECEIVES NUMEROUS ORDERS. Metso Paper, Helsinki, Finland, has made several announcements about orders and current projects:

* Metso Automation will supply Stora Enso's Kvarnsveden mill, Sweden, with a wide range of automation and field solutions. This turnkey delivery is for a new production line for high-quality SC paper being supplied by Metso Paper. With a capacity of 420,000 metric tons/yr, the new PM 12 line will be one of the largest in the world. Start-up is scheduled for late 2005. The automation order is a part of Metso's total order announced in April 2004.

* The Norske Skog Norske Skogindustrier ASA or Norske Skog, (OSE: NSG) which translates as Norwegian Forest Industries, is a Norwegian pulp and paper company based in Oslo, Norway and etablished in 1962.  Bruck Mill, Austria, successfully started up PM 4 in March 2004. Total value of this rebuild project was EUR EUR

* Metso is preparing to send an 18-foot Yankee cylinder to AI Sindan Paper Mill, Egypt, which will complete a new tissue machine project early next year. The AI Sindan machine will produce 54,000 tons/yr of high-quality facial, toilet, and towel grades. The AI Sindan Yankee is number 480 in a row since the very first Yankee cylinder was delivered to Goteborgs Pappersbruk in 1895.

 Tervasaari Mill in Valkeakoski, Finland. The rebuilt paper machine, producing release paper, will start up in mid 2005. Value of the order is approximately EUR 30 million (US$ 24.6 million). Annual production will be increased from the present 130,000 metric tons to 175,000 metric tons. The project also aims to improve release paper quality.

* Metso Paper will supply Ripasa S/A Celulose E Papel, Brazil with a complete pulp drying line for its Limeira, Brazil, mill, and a rebuild of the board machine for its Ripasa Embu, Brazil mill. Both the drying line and the rebuilt board machine will start up in mid 2005. The total value of the orders is close to EUR 30 million (US$ 24.6 million). Delivery includes bleached stock screening, wet end, airborne dryer, cutter-layboy, and pulp baling systems. Trim width is 3900 mm; design speed is 200 m/min.

* Metso Automation said that since its introduction in September 2003, the order list for its PaperIQ Plus quality control system (QCS QCS Quadro Comunitario di Sostegno (Italian: Community Support Network)

) has reached 23. Since many of these are multi-scanner systems, the number of scanners on order is 36. In addition, a number of older systems have been upgraded with new PaperIQ Plus sensors. The first installation of this new-generation system was completed in January 2004 on PM 1 at Stora Enso's Nymolla, Sweden mill.
