) (ME:MWK) announced today its agreement with MIPS Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:MIPS) to develop and deploy its CodeWarrior Analysis Tools Suite ("CATS") targeted for MIPS(R) embedded processors.

CATS includes a graphical hierarchical profiler and a graphical code coverage tool. The profiler tool analyzes the amount of time spent running each line of code and displays code execution in a variety of graphical display formats. The code coverage tool analyzes code execution to determine which parts and paths of the program have been executed, a critical task for ensuring code quality.

Metrowerks will introduce CATS for MIPS in the third calendar quarter of 1999, hosted on Windows(R) 95/98 and Windows NT(R) and targeting processors implementing the MIPSIII and MIPSIV ISA (1) (Instruction Set Architecture) See instruction set.

"Metrowerks CATS will add a new and more robust dimension to the design cycle of systems built around MIPS processors," said Lavi Lev, senior vice president, MIPS Technologies Inc. "This technology offers the ability to optimize code quality and performance, and we are pleased that designers will have access to this valuable tool."

"Creating a next generation version of our CATS technology for MIPS processors is a strategic effort to introduce very powerful performance analysis and quality assurance tools into the embedded development marketplace," said Greg Galanos, president and chief technology officer, Metrowerks.

"As embedded systems become increasingly more complex, CATS will correctly measure the runtime performance of software running on these systems, from game consoles to telecommunications switches. CATS for MIPS, is derived from advanced, patented microprocessor research on Alpha processors at Digital's Western Research Laboratories."

About Metrowerks' Embedded Systems Products

The CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment See IDE.

integrated development environment - interactive development environment
(IDE) is the most powerful multi-host, multi-target, multi-language software development solution available in the market. CodeWarrior's state-of-the-art design gives embedded software developers a flexible, high-performance toolset to help them clear many of the productivity and time-to-market hurdles they face today. CodeWarrior accelerates the development process by combining advanced compilers with an editor, debugger, linker and code browser, all controlled by a single, intuitive graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to
 (GUI).

CodeWarrior provides engineers with the ability to pick the host platform, programming language, and target processor that best suits the needs of the project, without having to learn a whole new set of development tools. CodeWarrior is hosted on Windows 95/98, Windows NT and Solaris, and offers a choice of several high-level programming languages (C, C++, EC++, Pascal, and Java), as well as full support for in-line assembly. CodeWarrior compilers are available to target PowerPC, MIPS, 68K, x86, and other families of microprocessors.

With more than 160 software engineers, Metrowerks invests 35% of the company's revenues in CodeWarrior research and development. Metrowerks has the resources to create state-of-the-art embedded tools. With the CodeWarrior IDE already used by more than 100,000 registered desktop users in 75 countries, Metrowerks' CodeWarrior IDE development costs can be amortized over a very large number of users.
