Solutions to Market Fast

A new development tool kit from Metrowerks allows developers of Net services software applications to quickly and easily create Novell(R) NetWare(R) applications, NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs) and device drivers using the popular CodeWarrior(tm) Integrated Development Environment See IDE.

CodeWarrior Professional Development Kit (PDK) for NetWare, Version 4.0, an add-on to CodeWarrior for Windows, Version 7.0, provides developers with the capability to edit, compile, and debug To correct a problem in hardware or software. Debugging software means locating the errors in the source code (the program logic). Debugging hardware means finding errors in the circuit design (logical circuits) or in the physical interconnections of the circuits.  NLM Software that runs in a NetWare server. Although NetWare servers store DOS and Windows applications, they do not execute them. All programs that run in a NetWare server must be compiled into the NLM format. They are typically written in C and use Novell's libraries.  applications for NetWare using C, C++ and Java languages. Developers can also take advantage of Novell eDirectory Novell eDirectory (formerly called Novell Directory Services, NDS) is an X.500 compatible directory service software product released in 1993 by Novell, Inc. for centrally managing access to resources on multiple servers and computers within a given network. (tm) and other network services available on Novell's intelligent network server platform, to add intelligence, manageability, and security to cross-platform network solutions that can be distributed across the enterprise and the World Wide Web.

"Software application developers are a critical part of the success of Novell's Net services solutions," said Michael Simpson There are several people named Michael Simpson or Mike Simpson:
  • Michael Simpson (producer) - record producer and member of the electronic group Dust Brothers
  • Michael Simpson (journalist) - editorial supervisor of two newspapers in Vegreville, Alberta, Canada
, vice president of platform solutions for Novell. "Metrowerks is a key partner as its CodeWarrior development tools make it easy to develop such solutions and get them to market as fast as possible."

Additional features of the PDK include source-level debugging capabilities, such as:
-- Ability to pause, restart, and re-enable thread execution across multiple
threads

-- Ability to control thread execution on multiple processors

-- Ability to follow debugging sessions across multiple NLMs and to view source
for multiple NLMs at the same time.

-- Support for Kernel aware debugging

-- Support for remote debugging via TCP/IP or Serial protocol

"The PDK for NetWare provides another popular platform to target for the many developers already familiar with the CodeWarrior IDE and tool set," said John Smolucha, vice president of marketing, Metrowerks. "The powerful CodeWarrior IDE and tool set, combined with an industry leading network operating system An operating system that is designed for network use. Normally, it is a complete operating system with file, task and job management; however, with some earlier products, it was a separate component that ran under the OS; for example, LAN Server required OS/2, and LANtastic required DOS. , NetWare 6, make it easier than ever to create network solutions."

The CodeWarrior Professional Development Kit for NetWare is hosted on Windows(R) 98, Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.
