Metrodata has chosen Redux Communications' PrimaGate RS-120, a 100 Mbps wire-speed Ethernet Bridge, as the core technology for their evolutionary Corporate LAN Extender products.

SURREY, England & MODI'IN, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 2002

Metrodata specialize in cost-effective solutions for high-speed wide area network (WAN) standards and connectivity.

Quality performance at minimum cost was the driving philosophy for their LAN Extender A LAN extender forwards traffic between LANs transparent to higher network-layer protocols over distances that far exceed the limitations of standard Ethernet. A LAN, or Local Area Network, is a high-speed data network (usually employing Ethernet technology) to connect computer  -- and their choice of PrimaGate. The Metrodata LAN Extender allows remote office Ethernet LANs to connect to a Corporate LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  via a high-speed line, and have integral Ethernet switching, whilst removing the need for a bridge or router! Configuration is completely automatic -- another key feature currently only supported by the PrimaGate RS-120(R).

PrimaGate RS-120(R) delivers Ethernet over any type of broadband first mile infrastructure into business and residential premises without any need for software development by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  hence enabling a very rapid time to market for OEM solutions. Metrodata is planning to market the LAN Extenders via distribution and Systems Integration channels as well as Service Providers such as British Telecom. For that reason, Metrodata required a carrier-grade Ethernet bridging solution on a single chip that could provide wire-speed performance at up to 100 Mbps.

Ian Banbrook, Product Manager at Metrodata states, "The Redux RS-120(R) technology is absolutely ideal to match our demanding specification, to work perfectly and present no overload problems with wire-speed LAN data being fed into the subscriber port." Paul Ingram, Managing Director of Metrodata added, "all the traditional complexity for a remote office user to select an Ethernet switch, and a bridge or router, and setting-up within a non-skilled environment is passed. Together Metrodata and Redux have a very attractive solution."

Andy Sumpter - European Product Manager for Redux at Unique Memec quoted "As technical distributors for Redux throughout Europe, we are delighted by the success of this partnership." "Metrodata's quick adoption of the PrimaGate RS-120 and integration into their carrier-grade products validates our vision of highly integrated, pre-programmed wire-speed processors for the customer premises," says Daniel Bar-Lev, VP Sales and Marketing at Redux.
