Metro Ethernet Forum to Host the First Demonstration of Carrier Ethernet Services During SuperComm 2005.

IRVINE, Calif. -- Interoperability Demo Will Show That Carrier Ethernet is the Most Attractive Alternative to Legacy Transport for a Variety of Common and Innovative Services

The Metro Ethernet Forum The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) was founded in 2002. It is a non-profit international industry consortium, dedicated to worldwide adoption of Carrier Ethernet networks and services.  (MEF MEF Marine Expeditionary Force

) today announced that it will be conducting the world's first demonstration of Carrier Ethernet SuperComm from June 6-9, 2005, McCormick Place Coordinates:

McCormick Place is an enormous exposition complex located in Chicago, Illinois.
, Chicago, USA.. It will also be the world's largest ever interoperability demo with 30 members of the MEF participating in the SuperDemo (booth # 48085).

Over 30 companies will be participating in the demo, which will cover eight application and technology areas. The world's largest demonstration of its kind, it will act as a proof point that Carrier Ethernet is now ready to deliver 'real world' applications such as Triple-Play services with VoIP, IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) Also called "TV over IP," IPTV delivers scheduled TV programs and video-on-demand (VOD) via the IP protocol and digital streaming techniques used to watch video on the Internet.  and high-speed Internet See broadband.  access.

"Now that Ethernet has been released from the confines of the local area network, it's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia. Carrier Ethernet market set to explode

Chen continues, "As a consequence of the progress that the MEF has made in developing Carrier Ethernet's flexibility and cost-effectiveness, the Carrier Ethernet market is ready to explode. According to according to

MEF members companies will work together in specific application areas to demonstrate interoperable solutions for common services that can be delivered with Carrier Ethernet technology including:

Guaranteed rate Internet Access

High performance broadband Internet Access Broadband Internet access, often shortened to just "broadband", is high speed Internet access—typically contrasted with dial-up access over modem.

Dial-up modems are generally only capable of a maximum bitrate of 56 kbit/s (kilobits per second) and require the full use of a

Circuit Emulation

Providing a smooth migration for circuit-based applications and services is fundamental to the success of Carrier Ethernet. Axerra, RAD, Resolute res·o·lute

Service Aware Infrastructure

Carrier Ethernet gives service providers an intelligent network infrastructure capable of adapting to the specific requirements of the services present within it. Corrigent, Riverstone, Tellabs, Cisco, and Ixia Ix´i`a

will demonstrate a service aware infrastructure capable of delivering triple play services over a converged infrastructure.

Connectivity between Businesses

Ethernet access technology is the perfect compliment to the Carrier Ethernet metro core. Adva, Omnitron, Metrobility and Hatteras Networks will showcase a variety of innovative solutions and technologies for extending the Carrier Ethernet network into the access network.

IP-TV

Offering the triple play of voice, video and data services lets service providers maximize revenue potential and increase subscriber retention. In order to successfully delivery video services such as IP-TV the network must have high availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue. . Extreme Networks, Diatem, Alcatel and Spirent will present innovative solutions for providing carrier-class resiliency for Ethernet networks

Multi-Gigabit Internet Access

Ultra-high performance roadband Internet Access is possible due to Carrier Ethernet's high performance capabilities. Luminous, Sunrise and World-wide Packets will show off their high performance Gigabit access solutions.

Voice Over IP

One of the most popular applications for Carrier Ethernet is to offer Voice over IP for both business and residential subscribers. Nortel, Telco Systems and Agilent will layout their solutions for next generation voice services over Ethernet-based provider networks.

Broadband Services See broadband and broadband service provider.  Convergence

Carrier Ethernet offers the promise of an infrastructure capable of supporting the requirements of converged broadband services. Atrica, Fujitsu, Shenick and Cavaro will demonstrate a broadband converged services over a Carrier Ethernet infrastructure

About the demo

The demo will be managed by Iometrix, who has been selected to perform the MEF's Approved 'Carrier Ethernet' Certification testing. The MEF Certification Committee will also be available on the MEF booth for those that wish to discuss Certification requirements.

Press briefings will be available with members of the Certification Lab and the MEF Board on request, preferably by prior appointment.

About The Metro Ethernet Forum:

The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) is a global industry alliance comprising of more than 70 organizations including telecommunications service providers A Telecommunications Service Provider or TSP is a type of Communications Service Provider that has traditionally provided telephone and similar services. This category includes ILECs, CLECs, and mobile wireless companies. , network equipment/software manufacturers, semiconductors vendors and testing organizations. The MEF's mission is to accelerate the worldwide adoption of Carrier-class Ethernet networks and services.
