MetriGenix Extends the MGX 4D Array System, Launches Novel Respiratory Virus Panel Array; New Chip to Accelerate Identification of Markers for Major Respiratory Infections.Business Editors/Health/Medical Writers BIOWIRE2K GAITHERSBURG, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 28, 2003 MetriGenix Inc. today announced the latest extension of the 4D(TM) Array System with the launch of the MGX MGX Montenegro Airlines, Yugoslavia (ICAO code) MGX Media Gateways (TM) 4D Respiratory Virus Panel Array for research and study of markers related to major viral respiratory agents including influenza viruses, para influenza viruses, pneumoviruses (RSV-A and RSV-B viruses), metapneumovirus, corona viruses (229E, OC43 and SARS), mumps virus mumps virus n. A paramyxovirus that causes mumps, transmitted by infected salivary secretions. Also called epidemic parotitis virus. and measles virus measles virus n. An RNA virus of the genus Morbillivirus that causes measles in humans. Also called rubeola virus. . The Respiratory Array is the first single-chip platform for the detection of major respiratory viruses. It was developed in collaboration with Dr. Nicole Kessler, Director of Research at Laboratoire de Virologie, National WHO Influenza Center in Lyon, France, and a consultant for MetriGenix in the area of respiratory diseases. The new chip will be commercially available in the latter half of 2003. The Respiratory Array contains probes designed to rapidly detect known respiratory viral strains, types and/or subtypes. Each probe was developed in collaboration with Dr. Kessler and her team. Dr. Kessler's team determined the specificity, uniformity and reproducibility of the probes and optimized the array extensively. The Respiratory Array is a general research tool that should help researchers identify recently emerged influenza subtypes, including such recent agents as the natural influenza subtype (programming) subtype - If S is a subtype of T then an expression of type S may be used anywhere that one of type T can and an implicit type conversion will be applied to convert it to type T. HIN2, which has created difficulty for researchers working to identify influenza A influenza A n. Influenza caused by infection with a strain of influenza virus type A. influenza A Infectious disease An avian virus, especially of ducks–which in China live near the pig reservoir and 'vector'; virus HIN1 or H3N2 subtype solely based on its hem agglutinin Agglutinin A substance that will cause a clumping of particles such as bacteria or erythrocytes. Of major importance are the specific or immune agglutinins, which are antibodies that will agglutinate bacteria containing the corresponding antigens on their specificity. Commenting on the new respiratory array, Dr. Nicole Kessler stated, "I am thrilled to be working in collaboration with MetriGenix on this new respiratory virus research chip. For some time now, we have been using the 4D System on our research related to influenza and to date have had very good results." "We are excited about the introduction of the MGX 4D Respiratory Virus Panel Array and its potential benefit to researchers involved in the study of respiratory agents and their potential use in genetic-based diagnostics," said Dr. Andrew O'Beirne, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. of MetriGenix. "Due to certain genetic instabilities, mutations and rearrangements of the influenza family of viruses, significant difficulties have arisen in the detection and identification of relevant genetic sub-types of the disease, which has created challenges for development of antiviral therapies and effective vaccines. The Respiratory Array presents a promising tool for investigators in its potential to reduce overall research timelines and provide a means to conduct multiplexing assays that will identify markers of known major viruses, as well as identify new strains and clearly show the relation of such new strains to existing strains. Our goal with this new chip will be to help researchers accelerate and make more efficient their efforts in antiviral therapy and vaccine development for respiratory diseases." The Respiratory Panel Virus Array is the first in a series of product extensions of the MGX 4D Array platform. During the second half of 2003, MetriGenix plans to launch additional arrays focused on other market opportunities, specifically bioterrorism, host response and pathogen detection. The MetriGenix 4D Array System is an integrated platform that provides scientists an accurate, cost effective, easy-to-use technology designed to reduce assay time. Based on its patented Flow-Thru Chip(R) (FTC FTC See Federal Trade Commission (FTC). ) technology, MetriGenix's 4D Array System combines proprietary and public genomic and proteomic content to perform differential gene expression and proteomic studies. About MetriGenix MetriGenix, Inc. is a biotechnology company focused on developing a biochip biochip Small-scale device, analogous to an integrated circuit, constructed of or used to analyze organic molecules associated with living organisms. One type of theoretical biochip is a small device constructed of large organic molecules, such as proteins, and capable of platform based on the Flow-thru Chip(TM) technology. The Flow-thru Chip(TM) technology is a scaleable, high-performance microarray platform with a microchannel structure that results in a much larger surface area-to-volume ratio than is attained with flat surface platforms. The unique structure of the Flow-thru Chip(TM) technology yields performance enhancements in capacity, kinetics, and uniformity for biological sensing applications. MetriGenix has combined the Flow-thru Chip(TM) technology, which includes custom and branded chips, and its associated instrumentation, into a complete biomolecular analysis solution--the 4D Assay System(TM). The 4D Assay System(TM) has been developed for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies Top 100 Biotechnology Companies The following is a list of the top 100 biotechnology companies ranked by revenue.
