Lockheed Martin is developing the JSF under a concept demonstration contract awarded by the Department of Defense in November 1996. Flight evaluation is scheduled to take place in the year 2000, and government selection of a contractor for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD EMD Electromechanical dissociation, see there ) Phase is scheduled to occur in early 2001.
