Metalcasters convene at 107th casting Congress in Milwaukee. (107th AFS Casting Congress).


More than 1200 foundrymen from across the w arid gathered in Milwaukee from April 26-29 for the 107th AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System.

 Casting Congress. This was the first congress held in Milwaukee since 1992. The show featured more than 110 exhibits and 51 technical and management sessions covering the latest in technological and technical advances for the industry.

During the congress, Engineered Casting Solutions and the AFS Marketing Div. displayed the 15 honorees from their third annual casting contest. This year's Casting of the Year designation was awarded to Hitchcock Industries' strut fan cowl support beam for the Boeing 737, which was converted from a fabrication fabrication (fab´rikā´shn),
n the construction or making of a restoration.

Conner Warren, executive vice president (retired), Citation Corp., Birmingham, Alabama Birmingham (pronounced [ˈbɝmɪŋˌhæm]) is the largest city in the U.S. state of Alabama and is the county seat of Jefferson County. , delivered the prestigious Charles Edgar Hoyt Memorial Lecture. Warren's address, "Do You Make a Difference?" detailed the importance of pushing individuals further so that they can say that they made a difference not only in their firm, but also the industry as a whole.

The Congress concluded on Tuesday afternoon with the President's luncheon and Annual Business Meeting. George M. Goodrich, president, Professional Metallurgical Services, Buchanan, Michigan Buchanan is a city in Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,681 at the 2000 census. Grabel, senior process engineering supervisor, Caterpillar, Inc., Mapleton, Illinois; Frederick P. Schleg, vice president--education (retired), Cast Metals Institute, Des Plaines, Illinois; Alan K. Steffe, manufacturing engineering director--castings, General Motors Powertrain, Grand Blanc, Michigan Grand Blanc is a suburb of Flint in Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 8,242 at the 2000 census. The city is situated within Grand Blanc Charter Township, but is politically independent. ; and Joseph R. Ward, metallurgist, Indianapolis Casting Corp., Indianapolis. Mary Beth Krysiak, president, Sand Technology Co., New Hudson, Michigan, received the CMI Director's Award.
