Superintendent Red Metcalfe and his team of handpicked London officers seek Silvertongue, a brilliant serial murderer who has been killing single men in increasingly horrible ways, leaving not so much as a fiber of evidence at any of the scenes. Apart from the killer's "signature" (he cuts out the tongues of his prey and inserts a silver spoon in their mouths), the murders and the victims don't fit into any pattern. Once police discover Silvertongue's motives, however, his future activities become all too clear. The suspense mounts unbearably as the team races to determine his identity and stop him.
