Of utmost importance; of outstanding significance or consequence: a momentous occasion; a momentous decision. time in history for the ABCA ABCA American Baseball Coaches Association ABCA American Border Collie Association ABCA Associação Brasileira de Críticos de Arte ABCA Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority ABCA American, British, Canadian, and Australian to take its 59th annual convention to the beautiful city of San Antonio San Antonio (săn ăntō`nēō, əntōn`), city (1990 pop. 935,933), seat of Bexar co., S central Tex., at the source of the San Antonio River; inc. 1837. , the home of the Alamo Alamo Eighteenth-century mission in San Antonio, Texas, site of a historic siege of a small group of Texans by a Mexican army (1836) during the Texas war for independence from Mexico. and those 200 heroic he·ro·ic adj. Relating to a risky medical procedure that may endanger the patient but also has a possibility of being successful, whereas lesser action would result in failure. and brave Texans who stood their ground and died for freedom in 1836. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] More than 3000 baseball coaches from all over the globe are expected to roll into San Antonio for four days of the finest baseball teaching to be found anywhere. The ABCA Convention should be a priority for every baseball coach in America. Not only has ABCA Second Vice-President Irish O'Reilly assembled a group of the finest clinicians in the game, but there will also be nearly 300 vendors on hand to display the latest and most innovative baseball equipment. The convention begins on January 2 with the annual business meetings that will enable every coach to become more involved in the work of the ABCA. Every coach at the convention will also be invited to attend the Hall of Fame/Coach of the Year Banquet A banquet is a large public meal or feast, complete with main courses and desserts. It usually serves a purpose, such as a charitable gathering, a ceremony, or a celebration. Sometimes a banquet consists of only desserts, but it is advisable to include main courses as well. and the Honors Luncheon. I urge everyone to take this opportunity to join the ABCA in honoring the people who have contributed significantly to the game we love. For the past several years, my wife has been accompanying me to the ABCA Conventions and she now looks forward to them as much as I do. She has met some wonderful coaches' wives, and they all have a good time at the special reception and breakfast for spouses. Would you believe the ABCA Convention could improve your marriage? Try it! One thing is certain. If you miss the ABCA Convention, it will definitely be your first loss of the season. So let's all go to bat in San Antonio and start the 2004 season as winners!
