Message from the Executive Director.

When you receive this magazine the examination based Certified Defense Financial Manager examination will have been open for several weeks. As I have visited chapters there is some apprehension about this new project and the best method of preparation for the examination. I recommend you develop a personal game plan predicated on one of the following approaches outlined in the Certification Brochure.

Self-study assisted by the Certification Home Page. Instructions are available at www.asmconline.org/certification.

Self study assisted by the Reference Guide available from the national headquarters of the American Society of Military Comptrollers. This copyrighted document can be obtained by writing to ASMC at 2034 Eisenhower Aye, Suite 145 Alexandria Va. 22314 or telephone to 703 5490360 or by e-mail to certification @ asmconline.org. The cost is $10.00 plus postage.

Group study at local chapters. Group study may include sharing administrative information between members, or actual instruction presented by authorized instructors. I encourage chapter leadership to develop a program, which will assist the members in achieving certification.

Finally you may be selected to attend the Enhanced Financial Management Training course offered by the USDA Graduate School.

The variety of approaches above coupled with your experience and diligence should lead to success.
