Merix Corporation Introduces New Immersion Silver Surface Finish.

Business Editors, High-Tech Writers

FOREST GROVE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 2000

Merix Corporation Merix Corporation (NASDAQ: MERX) is an Oregon based printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer.[2] The Forest Grove based company is the 31st largest public company in Oregon based on market capitalization.  (Nasdaq:MERX) introduces new AlphaLEVEL Immersion Silver Surface Finish.

This surface finish is an immersion plating process that co-deposits an organic solderability preservative preservative

Any of numerous chemical additives used to prevent or slow food spoilage caused by chemical changes (e.g., oxidation, mold growth) and maintain a fresh appearance and consistency. Antimycotics (e.g.

Merix chose the new system based on the excellent results obtained during product reliability testing, outstanding solderability and assembly results, and the ease of process control. Merix customers have found that this surface finish can result in improved yields during the assembly process, and it can perform as a replacement for HASL (language) HASL - SASL plus conditional unification.

(Hot air solder leveling). This process provides a truly flat solderable surface that can be electrically tested. This process is completed on a horizontal machine allowing for excellent consistency and good economics. The finish has been tested and qualified for general board use by UL laboratories.

"Product reliability is the key attribute that we investigated during our evaluation of new surface finishes," stated Doug Trobough, Director of NPI NPI National Provider Identifier, see there  Engineering at Merix. "Several customers were looking for Looking for

improved assembly yields and increased ease of processing that immersion silver provides, and these customers have already qualified the process. Immersion silver is a leader among the emerging surface finishes for high density interconnects. This product provides increased flexibility in surface finish choices to our customers," concluded Trobough.
