Meridian Data introduces all-new double-speed CD-Recordable desktop system; Meridian Data enhances price/performance on complete lineup of CD-R desktop and network solutions.SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 19, 1994--Meridian Data Monday announced availability of its new high-performance Personal SCRIBE 750 CD-Recordable (CD-R (CD-Recordable) A writable CD technology using a type of compact disc that can be recorded, but not erased (CD-Rs are "write once" discs). CD-R discs are used to master CD-ROMs, to back up data and to make copies of data for distribution. ) desktop system. The advanced CD-R solution incorporates a third-generation double-speed (2x) CD recorder, enabling a wide range of desktop CD ROM publishing and imaging applications. The new high-performance CD recorder in the Personal SCRIBE 750 is a true read/write peripheral device. Unlike earlier recorders which were designed primarily as writers, this CD-R drive is an excellent reader as well, delivering fast performance comparable to high-quality 2x-speed CD ROM drives on the market. With the Personal SCRIBE 750, users do not require a separate CD ROM drive to test or read discs created by the CD-R drive. Fast and affordable, the small-form-factor system includes Personal SCRIBE v2.5 Software, allowing PC users to create reliable ISO (1) See ISO speed. (2) (International Organization for Standardization, Geneva, Switzerland, www.iso.ch) An organization that sets international standards, founded in 1946. The U.S. member body is ANSI. 9660 single-session, multisession A compact disc capability in which data are recorded in more than one session. Each subsequent recording session can be linked to the previous so that they all appear as one. Each session adds overhead on the disc, because lead-in and lead-out sectors must be recorded each time, which bridge and audio CDs. A disc can be written in 30 minutes, with assurance that it is readable in any standard CD ROM drive. The software has an easy graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI) Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to and industry-best benchmark performance. Users can add files incrementally to a CD without replicating the unchanged files -- making the systems ideal for software development, publishing, imaging and archiving applications. Unlike competing products, Personal SCRIBE Software is optimized to keep up with real-time CD-R transfer rates without requiring a high-end processor -- a 386/20 system with 4MB of RAM is sufficient. Since files are reliably transferred on-the-fly to the recorder, there is also no requirement for an additional 1GB disk for image file staging. As a result, CDs can be written typically in half the time. Enhanced messaging permits easy control and monitoring of the disc creation process, including options for performance tuning, automated recording and screening of non-ISO9660 file and directory names. The versatile system allows users to select multiple drive/path combinations, create several tracks per session and append audio tracks to CD-R media.
