. The agreement includes Mercury's entire line of RACE(R) Series PCI and VME high-performance multicomputer systems.

This agreement will streamline procurement and specification processes for both companies. Mercury's product lines were chosen based on their scalability and real-time processing capabilities. These systems are currently being used in the radar systems of surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft, in sonar system upgrades for the U.S. Navy, and in a wide array of U.S. and allied defense platforms. In addition, these commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systems provide the signal and image processing power for many of the leading medical diagnostic imaging manufacturers.

"Mercury has been a supplier to Raytheon for many years and has been repeatedly selected for programs based on a complete cost, technical, and managerial evaluation," said Michael Vahey, director of technology, National Processor Center, Raytheon Electronic Systems. "Our competitive analysis indicates Mercury's products will continue to satisfy Raytheon's embedded computing requirements."

Raytheon is a substantial Mercury customer and has ordered the company's RACE technology for numerous military programs. These include the Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar Synthetic aperture radar (SAR)

"The military's COTS strategy is successfully providing the most advanced technology for many programs," said Vincent A. Mancuso, vice president and general manager of Mercury Computer Systems' Government Electronics Group. "Raytheon continues to be one of Mercury's highly valued customers and this preferred supplier agreement will enable us to provide them with increasingly cost-effective solutions."
