Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on : MRCY), announced today that is has received an order for RACE++(R) multicomputer systems from SOSTAR GmbH of Immenstaad, Germany for use in the development of the Stand-Off Surveillance and Target Acquisition Radar (SOSTAR-X) system. The SOSTAR-X system is a European radar development including a two-dimensional Active Electronically Scanned Array An Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA), also known as active phased array radar is a type of radar whose transmitter and receiver functions are composed of numerous small transmit/receive (T/R) modules. (AESA) antenna, operations and control, data link and groundstation. The SOSTAR system is a comprehensive ground surveillance and target tracking system that combines advanced radar technologies such as ground moving target identification (GMTI), swath and spotlight synthetic aperture radar Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) Radar, airborne or satellite-borne, that uses special signal processing to produce high-resolution images of the surface of the Earth (or another object) while traversing a considerable flight path. It is the lower part of the ATM Adaption Layer (AAL), which is responsible for the entire operation. See AAL. SAR - segmentation and reassembly ), classification and data exploitation technologies. SOSTAR-X is funded by five NATO Partners: Germany, Italy, France, The Netherlands and Spain. SOSTAR GmbH is a joint venture founded in February of 2001 between Dutch Space in the Netherlands, EADS-Dornier in Germany, FIAR in Italy, INDRA in Spain and Thales Airborne Systems in France. The cooperative effort was formed to execute the SOSTAR-X program, a demonstrator program to validate the SOSTAR solution and verify critical radar design issues. It is considered as the European contribution for a future NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS AGS American Geriatrics Society. ) system. Mercury Computer Systems was selected by SOSTAR GmbH as radar processor supplier due to its experience in large surveillance/reconnaissance programs and its support capability required to develop real time systems. The current program requirement is for three RACE++ systems for use in SOSTAR-X development activities and an additional RACE++ system for use in the SOSTAR-X demonstration system. The program is valued at approximately $4 million (U.S.) to Mercury. Mercury will complete delivery of the RACE++ systems over the next year. Additional orders may be obtained as a result of a successful development and demonstration effort. About Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. Mercury Computer Systems, Inc.
