Merck KGaA Unveils Its Japan Business Reorganization Plan.

Specifically, the company will consolidate the ethicals division of its Japanese subsidiary Merck Ltd. and its Japanese generic pharmaceutical subsidiary Merck Hoei and create a new company, Merck Pharma Ltd., in April 2006.

With this move, Merck aims to reinforce its foundations in Japan, while achieving synergistic effects for each operation.

Upon consolidation, Merck Ltd. will focus more on the chemical products business for the development, production and marketing of liquid crystals and pigments.
