Merchants Terminal Corporation planning for the future.

Merchants Terminal Corporation of Baltimore, Maryland has built in a future green approach to the construction of their new state of the art cold storage and blast freezer facility.

The design of the facility incorporated structural support for a future installation of a solar cell system to augment the existing energy savings programs in place at all of the Merchants Terminal facilities.

The new facility, located on the site of the old General Motors manufacturing facility, adjacent to the port of Baltimore, will incorporate the newest technology in product receiving, storage and distribution. The facility is located near a number of main highway access ways.

This new facility has 94,326 square feet of-20[degrees]F/-10[degrees]F cold storage, using a total of 1046 high stage tons of refrigeration to handle the booster system load, cooler and dock loads plus 10,100 square feet of -10[degrees]F/+36[degrees]F storage area. The system is capable of blast freezing 384,000 pounds of product in 20 hours.

The refrigeration system, designed and installed by Industrial Refrigeration Service, Inc. of Baltimore, Maryland has total capacity of 244 tons of refrigeration for the -20[degrees]F/-10[degrees]F cold storage and 437 tons of refrigeration for product blast freezing. To help maintain these temperatures Polytemp Corporation of Baltimore installed insulated wall panels.
