Mercator Expands Healthcare Offerings to Asia Pacific; Provides HL7 and SAP Healthcare Solution for Australia's Wesley Hospital.

Mercator(R) Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCTR), today announced the successful installation of its healthcare integration solution at Brisbane's Wesley Hospital.

The largest private hospital in Queensland, Australia, with 430 in-patient beds, Wesley offers the state's most comprehensive range of private medical facilities.

The Wesley campus has a staff level of about 1500 that maintain a high standard of care and facilities to provide services to more than 60,000 people a year. In order to ensure a high level of patient care, Wesley Hospital has implemented a strong IT infrastructure with advanced software applications, including a Cerner Clinical Information System (CIS) and an SAP Sales System.

The hospital's data is standardized on Health Level 7 (HL7), the highest data standard set by the International Standards Organization (ISO) for the medical community. HL7 focuses on the interface requirements of the entire healthcare organization. It develops a set of protocols and addresses the unique requirements of already installed hospital systems. The standard is used by healthcare organizations across Europe, Asia Pacific, and North America.

"Mercator allowed us to interface a highly customized and flexible sales system based on SAP to our Cerner Clinical Information System," explained Max Bikins, Wesley Hospital's Information Systems Manager. "Based on our previous experience with Mercator, we knew they would be a reliable technology partner for the hospital. Mercator was able to integrate the two applications because of their unique HL7 adapter. The solution linked the two applications by updating SAP via ALE IDOCS from HL7 messages received via TCP/IP socket from the Cerner system."

An additional goal of the project called for using Mercator to provide a real-time messaging interface from CIS to the SAP Sales System and installing a platform that could be deployed for future communication requirements such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) messaging.
