Mentor to set up R&D center in Taiwan.


WILSONVILLE, OR -- Mentor Graphics Mentor Graphics, Inc (NASDAQ: MENT) is a US-based multinational corporation dealing in electronic design automation (EDA) for electrical engineering and electronics, as of 2004, ranked third in the EDA industry it helped create.  Corp. is setting up an R&D center in Taiwan due to the country's importance in the Asia-Pacific region and its proximity to China, according to according to

 Johnny Chang, Mentor's marketing director for the Pacific Rim Pacific Rim, term used to describe the nations bordering the Pacific Ocean and the island countries situated in it. In the post–World War II era, the Pacific Rim has become an increasingly important and interconnected economic region. .

Chang revealed in a news release that Mentors' sales from the Asia-Pacific region in the first half of 2006 grew about 30% on year, much more than the average 13-15% growth the company saw in its worldwide sales. This is also the third year in a row that Mentor has seen strong on-year growth (about 30% each year) in the first hall of the year in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to the company, the Taipei-based center will focus on mixed-signal (analog/digital) system-on-chip (SoC) EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board. . Mentor already has another R&D team based in Hsinchu focusing on simulation software for layered circuits and mixed signals.
