Mendocino Brewing Company's new facility goes on line.


HOPLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 1997--The Mendocino Brewing Company Mendocino Brewing Company, founded in 1983 as the Hopland Brewery in Hopland, California, is a brewery currently located in Ukiah, Mendocino County, California. The company runs a brewpub in Hopland at the location of its original brewery, but has since expanded into a  is proud to announce that it is brewing the first batches in its new facility in Ukiah, Calif., and that there will be beer for distribution by mid to late May.

The new brewery will increase production capacity to approximately 60,000 barrels per year, with an eventual capacity of approximately 200,000 barrels (a brewer's barrel equals 31 gallons).

It is significant to note that this will be the first time that draft beer will be available to the marketplace from the Mendocino Brewing Company. No kegs could be produced from the small Hopland brewery due to size limitations.

A brief description of the new facility: 65,000 square feet, a 100-barrel mash tun a large tub used in making mash and wort.

Bottling lines are production lines that fill a product, generally a beverage, into bottles on a large scale.
. It is projected that 25 to 30% of total production will be draft. The first brand to be produced will be the company's flagship ale, Red Tail Ale, which was recently voted "One of the World's Top Ten Beers" by the prestigious magazine The Wine Enthusiast.

Second will be Blue Heron Pale Ale, which was awarded a Gold Medal, with a Special Award of Excellence, by the respected Underground Wine Journal, followed by Black Hawk Stout, which will soon be available in six-packs rather than the 22-ounce bottle.
