Prostate cancer is the leading malignancy in men in the United States and is second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death in men. on May 8, 2000, at his home in Holualoa, Hawaii. He was the grandson of General George W. Goethals, chief engineer in the construction of the Panama Canal Panama Canal, waterway across the Isthmus of Panama, connecting the Atlantic (by way of the Caribbean Sea) and Pacific oceans, built by the United States (1904–14) on territory leased from the republic of Panama. and first governor of the Canal Zone Canal Zone: see Panama Canal Zone. In addition to his research on Sumbawa, he did research on landlord-tenant relations among padi farmers in Trengganu and studied the problems of agricultural reform legislation in padi growing areas on behalf of the Ford Foundation and the Malaysian Ministry of Agriculture. Under sponsorship of the Asia Foundation and the Sabah Ministry of Local Government, Peter made a study of the problems of the administration of native law and custom in Sabah in 1965.
