Memorial Walk and Rally Planned; Home Depot Governor's Cup 5/10K Run/Walk Joins Forces With American Red Cross to Help Save Lives.

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2001

Plans for this Sunday's 26th Annual Home Depot(R) Governor's Cup 5/10K Run/Walk have changed slightly.

The walk will still take place as scheduled (starting at 8:00 a.m., September 23, at the southwest corner of the Cherry Creek Mall), but will now culminate in a "Memorial Rally" at the State Capitol Building for the victims of last week's attack on America (the rally at the Capitol will begin at 9:45 a.m.). The American Red Cross has also joined with the Governor's Cup sponsors and organizers to support the event.

Marie Belew Wheatley of the American Red Cross has given her full support to the event.

Representatives from the American Red Cross will be on hand for any donations. The event will include participation by Olympic distance runner Frank Shorter, Marcelo Balboa of the Colorado Rapids and Ellen Hart-Pena. People can register the day of the event.

This year's events, which feature new, faster courses, all start at 8 a.m. and end at the State Capitol. The 5K run and fitness walk starts at the southwest corner of the Cherry Creek Mall near Bed, Bath and Beyond. The 10K race -- for runners only -- starts at the Cook Park Recreation Center just east of Monaco and Cherry Creek Drive South. Free transportation will be provided for participants who leave their cars in Cherry Creek.

Kids ages 12 and under are welcome to participate for free in the "Kids Fun Run" around the State Capitol, which starts at 9:30 a.m. All kids will receive a KOOL 105 finisher ribbon and yo-yos, paddle balls, and children's aprons from the Home Depot. The KOOL 105 FM house band, KOOL KATS, will provide entertainment. Participants can register online at www.bkbltd.com or at any Runner's Roost and Boulder Running Company locations.
