The Memex system will provide powerful data mining, analysis and visualization tools across existing LAPD intelligence databases at the same time as providing standard functions for the gathering and management of intelligence in accordance with federal and local guidelines. The system will improve operational effectiveness of the LAPD by enabling the searching of all intelligence databases simultaneously. In addition, Memex enables case de-confliction and will provide proactive notifications and alerts to units within Major Crimes, enhancing the quality of intelligence information.

According to Lieutenant Bob Fox, Spokesperson for the LAPD, "Our greatest fear in the battle against terrorism is missing a small piece of information out of the thousands in our possession that could have led us to the prevention of a terrorist attack in the Los Angeles region, nation and other countries. The Memex software solution is an excellent tool to help us more clearly track and connect those dots."

LAPD Major Crimes Division relies heavily on members of the public for information regarding potential terrorist activity. To provide information to Major Crimes Division, the public can phone 877-A-THREAT (877-284-7328) or e-mail 877-ATHREAT@lapd.lacity.org

"Memex is excited by the opportunity to support the development of the LAPD effort," stated Memex General Manager, Mike Himley, "This initiative and our expansion into the Greater Los Angeles area underscores the growing market demand for our intelligence solution and reflects our commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies at the forefront of the battle against crime and terrorism."
