State League leaders, big city Leagues, capital city Leagues and Inter-League Organizations (ILOs) will be treated to lively, interesting sessions at the LWVUS Council, entitled "Engaging Your Community," in Washington, DC, June 11-13. David Gergen, professor of public service at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government and director of its Center for Public Leadership and U.S. News & World Report editor-at-large, is Banquet speaker. EAC Chair Gracia Hillman, a former LWVUS executive director, will speak at plenary.

The kick-off session on Saturday, June 11, "A 360[degrees] View of the League: Using Issues to Engage your Community and Build your League," is a multi-faceted, interactive training designed to help Leagues maximize their efforts, focusing on the interrelatedness of visibility, fundraising and membership. The emphasis will be on supporting our multi-issue organization under a more focused umbrella that resonates with the public perception of the League.

Council will also offer sessions on civil liberties and homeland security, election reform in the states and democracy in the global community. Materials from these sessions will be available in the Members Section of the LWVUS Web site.
