Meiji Seika Kaisha, Solvay Seiyaku Obtain Additional Approval for Fluvoxamine Maleate.Tokyo, Japan, Oct 15, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Meiji Seika Kaisha and Solvay Seiyaku jointly announced on October 12 that they have obtained approval of additional indication for fluvoxamine maleate fluvoxamine maleate (flōōvak´s  mēn´ mā´lēāt),n brand name: Luvox; drug class: from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare as of October 11. Fluvoxamine maleate is now available in the treatment of social-anxiety disorder. Fluvoxamine maleate is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor n. SSRI. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) A class of antidepressants that work by blocking the reabsorption of serotonin in the brain, raising the levels of , which was originally developed in Switzerland in 1983 and has been marketed in Japan since 1999. Currently the agent is marketed under the trade names of Depromel (by Meiji Seika Kaisha) and Luvox (by Solvay Seiyaku) and indicated for depression and obsessive-compulsive. This is the world's first such indication approved for fluvoxamine maleate.
