Meier-designed residential building wins LA award.


New Pacific Realty and Richard Nleier were honored today with a Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Architectural Award for 9900 Wilshire for outstanding architecture in the unbuilt category.

New Pacific Realty is proposing to develop 9900 Wilshire, located at the western entrance to Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities.  on the eight-acre site of the former Robinsons-May, with an environmentally sensitive, luxury condominium project designed by Pritzker Prize Pritzker Prize (prĭt`skər), officially The Pritzker Architecture Prize, award for excellence in architecture, given annually since 1979.  winning architect Richard Meier Richard Meier (born October 12 1934 in Newark, New Jersey) is an influential, contemporary American architect known for his rationalist designs and the use of the colour white. .

9900 Wilshire comprises two signature 12-story buildings, luxury townhomes, two contemporary four-story loft buildings, retail and restaurant space for residents, all situated in a spectacular open-landscaped setting, featuring waterscapes and sculpture gardens.

Meir's design covers only one-third of the site. The majority of the property will be landscaped gardens designed by the internationally recognized landscape architects, the Olin Partnership, which recently completed the landscape redesign at the Washington Monument. The design will also include a public garden along Wilshire Boulevard, directly across from the El Rodeo School.

When completed, 9900 Wilshire will be the first of its kind in the west to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Gold rating. It will use 25 % less energy, 50 % less water and emit fewer greenhouse gases than comparable residential buildings. Designed to take full advantage of its location, the buildings create substantial savings of resources by using natural light and the prevailing westerly breeze. The gardens will be kept green year-round by utilizing a state of the art water recycling system.
