The superstructure of 165 Charles St., a luxury condominium tower designed "inside and out" by Richard Meier Richard Meier (born October 12 1934 in Newark, New Jersey) is an influential, contemporary American architect known for his rationalist designs and the use of the colour white. , developer Izak Senbahar and Alexico Management Group, was topped off last week in a lunchtime ceremony.

This milestone, achieved on time and on budget, will allow the building to open as scheduled in May of 2005.

The Pritzker Prize-winning architect, commissioned by Izak Senbahar and Simon Elias, of Alexico Management Group, welcomed the opportunity to design a residential tower on the corner site of Charles and West Streets. 165 Charles St. represents a unique opportunity for Richard Meier to increase his architectural contribution to New York City New York City: see New York, city.

The elegant and graceful glass and steel structure contains open loft-like spaces with 11-foot high ceilings that allow for breathtaking panoramic views of the Hudson River from each of the 16 floors.

An expertly designed structural spine yields an open plan and free-flowing spaces, with the front portion of each floor organized around a kitchen island unit. The resulting trio of towers will be a landmark of modern architecture.

All design decisions incorporate the highest quality fixtures, appliances and materials. The units have Jet-Mist granite floors, wenge wood floors, acoustically-improved windows and white Surell kitchen and bathroom surfaces. The kitchens feature Subzero and Gaggenau appliances.

Amenities include a fitness center boasting state-of-the-art equipment, a 50-foot infinity pool with water wall, a wine cellar containing 32 individual climate-controlled wine cabinets by Eurocave and a professional screening room with 35 leather seats, originally designed by Richard Meier for The Getty Center.
