Meeting of prep aces results in Lancers loss.

Churchill's softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  team quietly ended its postseason run in the Class 5A state softball playoffs Friday.

Willamina 5, Waldport 1: Caralyn Chewning hit two homers and also struck out 12 while scattering five hits to lead the Bulldogs.

Kendall Clawson drove in a run for the host Irish.

Regis 6, Gold Beach 1: Alex Minten had three hits and an RBI to lead the host Rams.

Ashley Weber doubled in Molly Hockema with the Panthers' only run in the seventh.

Class 2A/1A
