Meet more of the staff. We are pleased to introduce Elizabeth James, Bea Mozon and Natalie Testa, three part-time staff members who have been on the League staff for many years--all told they share a total of more than 60 years with the League. These three women provide invaluable expertise in each of their work areas. Elizabeth James represents the accounts payable sector of the Accounting and Finance department. She is the person we all turn to when we need a check "yesterday," and she is always ready with her lovely smile. Elizabeth is happiest when winter is past and the warm weather is at hand. She enjoys spending her spare time "staying fit," and loves to roller-blade. Elizabeth also looks forward to traveling whenever it's possible. Bea Mozon is our expert in all aspects of payroll, including the intricacies of payroll deductions and the IRS. She has been employed in the Accounting and Finance department for 39 years. Bea enlightens and entertains us with anecdotes from her store of League office history. In her spare time, she enjoys singing with her church, traveling with her husband when the opportunity arises, and reading. Natalie Testa was not new to the League when she joined the staff in 1985. She had been a member in three states, an ILO President and a national Lobby Corps member. That background served Natalie well during the 20 years she staffed the LWVEF Presidential debates and forums around the country, LWVUS LWVUS - League of Women Voters of the United States Board meetings, Councils and Conventions. Anyone who has been to the latter has witnessed her magic first-hand. Traveling is one of Natalie's passions; she feels fortunate to be able to combine professional and personal adventures. Since her semi-retirement last year, Natalie has time for other pleasures--hiking in the Blue Ridge, birding in the woods around her home, tutoring first graders and watching the sunsets over Lake Monticello. In the past few months, we said goodbye to Nancy Connors, Judicial Independence Project manager, Dennis Jackson, part-time administrative services staff member, and Amy Shutt, executive assistant. We also welcomed and are now happy to introduce Danielle Duffy and two new part-time staff members, Pilar pi·la·ry (p ![]() l -r )adj. Velasquez and Yenny Guzman. Our newest staff member, Danielle Duffy, executive assistant to the LWVUS president and executive director, joined the staff in April. As her title suggests, she does whatever is necessary to maintain the efficiency of both the LWVUS president and executive director in their many duties. Danielle is working on her Master's in political management at George Washington University, specializing in campaign and issue management. She holds degrees in political science and telecommunications from the University of Florida, Gainesville. She spent most of the past year in various capacities at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as a volunteer, GOTV GOTV - Get Out The Vote (voter registration campaign) organizer, and assistant to the executive director. Among other things, Danielle enjoys fondue, Gator Football and her new city life. As an LWVEF Global Democracy Program specialist, Pilar Velasquez works on the New Citizens Engagement project, collaborates on proposals and reports, researches new projects and establishes new contacts. Before joining our staff, she worked on women's issues related to political participation, elections, prostitution and, most recently, forced displacement in Colombia, her native country. Pilar has been with a University of Minnesota public health study, with Guatemalan women's organizations at the Centre for Development and Population Activities in Washington, DC, and an instructor at universities in the U.S. and Colombia. She holds a B.A. from the Universidad de los Andes (Bogota) and an M.A. from American University. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Yenny Guzman takes care of two important components that keep the League office running smoothly--incoming and outgoing mail, and ordering and dispensing office supplies. As needed, she also supports other administrative services. Yenny has an accounting degree from Strayer University, and has been a student of criminal law for two years at Montgomery College in Maryland. She was born in Nicaragua and her spare time is devoted to her lovely daughter. |
