Sir Christopher commented "The early detection of disease at a pre clinical and reversible stage empowers both practitioners and patients to obtain the best possible early intervention for the best possible outcome."

Medicsight, Inc.'s new scanning centres are branded under the name Lifesyne. Lifesyne's aim is to transform healthcare with innovative technologies for the early detection of fatal diseases which affect individuals in the developed world; In Europe alone, there are nearly two million coronary heart disease coronary heart disease: see coronary artery disease.

deaths and over half a million lung and colorectal cancer deaths each year. Those at risk of these three diseases are the first focus for the centres.

The centres use the new generation 16-detector imaging equipment to enable the build up of more detailed images of the body in minimal time. The process of radiological interpretation will be further enhanced by the incorporation of an expert CAD software system being developed by Medicsight. Up to 600 sub millimetre slices are produced in a single scan taking as little as 10 seconds and these are used to build up 3-D images. This extraordinarily high quality diagnostic data can be obtained using low dose protocols. The multiple images are scrutinised by a panel of Consultant Radiologists at the Lifesyne centre, led by Dr Phillip Gishen, Head of Imaging at Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust to provide referring physicians with a full report within 24 hours.

Whilst the procedure is both clinically and scientifically advanced, the patient experience is designed to be as non-clinical and non-stressful as possible. The Centre operates a fast appointment and no waiting provision and individuals should only spend as little as 15 minutes in the centre, with the actual scan taking from between 10 - 45 seconds.

The company's Director of Medical Science Dr John Costello, MD, FRCP, FRCPI FRCPI Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland , who is also Director of Medicine at Kings College Hospital, London concluded "our vision is that anyone at risk - either through health condition, age or genetic predisposition - should have access to a Lifesyne scan." With advance bookings already hitting triple figures by the end of the year, Lifesyne is on target to realise this vision.
