Medicity Inc. Announces the Release of MediPrise, an Enterprise Web Solution for Hospitals Based Upon its Innovative Community Platform.

SALT LAKE CITY--(BW HealthWire)--Jan. 24, 2002

New Product Suite Builds on its Healthcare Platform

to Solve Connectivity Problems for Hospitals and

Other Large Healthcare Organizations

Medicity, provider of secure Internet platforms to healthcare enterprises and physician communities, Thursday announced the availability of MediPrise(TM) -- a new solution based upon its existing healthcare platform designed specifically to meet the requirements of hospitals and other large healthcare organizations.

The new solution draws heavily on the proven tools and applications now deployed in hospitals and physician communities across the country, connecting providers to hospitals and other organizations with whom they do business.

Medicity has drawn upon its extensive experience, connecting doctors to hospitals, to design an interactive Web solution that extends hospital information resources (1) The data and information assets of an organization, department or unit. See data administration.

Through Medicity's MediTrust(TM) security solution, MediPrise also pushes the security of Hospital Information Systems (HIS) out to the Internet and establishes an infrastructure for corporate HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191) Also known as the "Kennedy-Kassebaum Act," this U.S. law protects employees' health insurance coverage when they change or lose their jobs (Title I) and provides standards for patient health,  policy.

"Until MediPrise, hospitals were largely captives of their HIS vendor for a solution to connect physicians to the rich information resources residing in enterprise systems," emphasized Carol Owen, Medicity's vice president of product management.

"Now MediPrise offers not only an affordable choice for linking to physicians, but for the first time a single solution that brings HIS resources to other hospital constituents -- like patients and employees -- on the same platform."

Medicity overlays the hospital's HIS system to publish its applications and patient data securely over the Web to permissioned users.

"HIS vendors sell technology and process, but Web solutions are about more -- they are vehicles for marketing and customer service, the engines of business growth," explained Medicity chairman and chief executive officer, Kipp Lassetter, M.D.

"MediPrise is a business platform created specifically to enable the branding, messaging, and customer service applications that an enterprise will require of a maturing Web initiative -- one that goes beyond static content -- electronic brochureware A Web site that advertises a product but contains only the equivalent of a paper brochure with no interactivity. The Web is not encumbered by the size of paper and offers the ability to show endless views and details of a product, make recommendations based on user input, download demos  -- to interactive applications with real-time data Real-time data denotes information that is delivered immediately after collection. There is no delay in the timeliness of the information provided.

As the initiator of hospital admissions, physicians play a key role in the financial success of the healthcare enterprise. Medicity has deep experience into the needs of physicians and physician practices.

Medicity's expertise in physician workflow helps assure that its enterprise clients will meet the goals of physician usability and adoption, a major determiner of ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot).  on projects aimed at serving the doctor. Because MediPrise is Web-based, these resources can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection.

Patient satisfaction also influences the success of a hospital. Medicity has invested MediPrise with innovative applications that will raise the standard for hospital patient care in the industry. The innovative MediPrise Family Room was designed to facilitate communication between patient and hospital as well as between patient and doctor.

MediPrise also offers hospital employees such applications as online employment application, online employee orientation, training seminars, benefits management, retirement planning Retirement financial planning refers to a collection of systems, methods, and processes which, in their aggregate, support a family unit's (client's) desire to achieve a state of financial independence, such that the need to be gainfully employed is optional.  tools, and multimedia vision sharing from senior executives.

From a technical perspective, the underlying platform architecture is distributed for enterprise scalability, capable of the high transaction volumes that characterize even the largest healthcare business.
