Medicare law signed by LBJ.


Conferees on H.R. 6675 worked out all agreement on the 510 amendments made by the Senate and filed a conference report (H.R. 682) which received final approval in the House on July July: see month.  27th by a vote of 307 to 116, and in the Senate on July 28th by a vote of 70 to 24. The bill was signed into law by President Johnson on July 30th, and becomes P.L. 89-97....

A nation wide system of hospital and medical insurance for the aged is created in the new title (Title XVIII) added to the Social Security Act. For the first time in the history of the United States “American history” redirects here. For the history of the continents, see History of the Americas.
