Mentioned in: Naturopathic Medicine text in four parts--Fundamentals of Nutrition Assessment, Nutrition through the Life-Cycle, Integrative Systems and Disease, and Fundamentals of Nutrition Support. It is stimulating for its practical approach to including a number of new issues and areas of clinical nutrition practice like the metabolic syndrome, phytochemicals and the relevance of oxidative mechanisms of disease, herbal medicine and challenges for breastfeeding. It captures some neglected areas of nutrition practice like the role of alcohol in hypertension and stroke. It is remarkably succinct and contemporary in its references to recent critical studies in nutrition and health, throughout the book, even if citations are not often provided. A particular strength is the linkage between nutrients and foods in the case studies, and the science basis for decisions about food, formula feeds and supplement strategies in nutritional care. This is a handy book, reliable and up to date for probably the next two to three years. Mark L.
