Medical helicopter crashes near hospital in Mississippi, 3 injured

A medical helicopter carrying four people crashed near a county hospital in northern Mississippi early Saturday, injuring three, an official said.

A patient, the pilot and a medical worker were transported to the Quitman County Hospital, not far from where the helicopter went down in Marks, said Jonathan Dancy, the county's acting emergency management coordinator.

"We're on scene," Dancy said. "There are no fatalities. Some injuries, but no fatalities."

He did not know the details surrounding the medical flight and did not have the conditions of the injured.

Dancy said he would not be able to release more information until investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board arrived later in the day.

Marks is a town of 1,550 in the Mississippi Delta about 60 miles south of Memphis.
