She graduated with a BA in chemistry in 1983 and graduated from medical school in 1987. She completed her six-year residency training in urology at the University of Missouri Hospital University of Missouri Hospital, or University Hospital, is one of five hospitals operated by University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia, Missouri. The hospital is part of a complex of connected hospitals and buildings including University of Missouri Children's  and Clinics in 1993 and received her certification by the American Board of Urology in 1995.
