MediaTek Successfully Adopts Cadence Design Constraint Solution; Encounter Conformal Constraint Designer Validates SoC Constraints from RTL to Implementation.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CDNS) today announced that MediaTek Corp. in Taiwan has successfully adopted Cadence(R) Encounter(R) Conformal(R) Constraint Designer. MediaTek confirmed the validation of its design constraints in the design process from RTL to implementation with Encounter Conformal Constraint Designer for a leading optical storage controller chip.

With design constraints growing larger and more complex, designers spend significant time ensuring that they have a set of solid constraints. With Encounter Conformal Constraint Designer, MediaTek was able to reduce the manual effort usually associated with this task. MediaTek will formalize Encounter Conformal Constraint Designer's SDC validation as a qualification step prior to the design team's delivery of the gate-level synthesized netlist to the backend team for placement and routing.

MediaTek chose Encounter Conformal Constraint Design primarily based on its improved ability to prevent potential risk, and to reduce the manual effort needed to reach timing closure.

During MediaTek's evaluation, Encounter Conformal Constraint Designer reported several constraint-related problems in its constraints. With this information, designers were able to confirm and correct these problems, and check for overlapping constraints -- an important issue to MediaTek designers. After fixing the clock-related violations detected by Encounter Conformal Constraint Designer, it is easier to correct clock problems in the physical implementation.
