Media war on pro-life.You may have missed or forgotten them, but last fall there were two extraordinary editorial comments on pro-life. Globe and Mail An October 13, 1995, Globe and Mail editorial, much upset about the Alberta attempt to defund de·fund tr.v. de·fund·ed, de·fund·ing, de·funds To stop the flow of funds to: "Some days, they wake up with a burning desire to defund the Public Broadcasting System and the National Endowment for the abortions, declared 1) that the Supreme Court 1988 ruling ended the abortion dispute in this country; 2) that no one cares where Jean Chretien stands on the issue; 3) that people do not want it politicized and that those who do are un-Canadian. Un-Canadian, you say? For our readers' information Mr. Chretien is a) committedly pro-abortion; b) he has not left a political stone untouched to assure that this anti-life policy remains the Liberal party's official position. This includes parachuting four pro-abortion people into ridings where pro-life candidates had been nominated during the 1993 election (Jean Augustine Jean Augustine, PC, B.A., M.A., LL.D (born September 9, 1937 in St. George's, Grenada) is a former Canadian politician. From 1993 to 2005 Augustine was a Liberal member of the Canadian House of Commons, representing the riding of Etobicoke—Lakeshore. in Etobicoke-Lakeshore; Maria Minna Maria Minna, PC, MP, (born March 14, 1948, Pofi, Italy) is a Canadian politician who represents the Toronto riding of Beaches—East York in the House of Commons for the Liberal Party. in Beaches-Woodbine; Art Eggleton Arthur (Art) C. Eggleton, PC (born September 29, 1943 in Toronto, Ontario) is a former Canadian Cabinet minister and Mayor of Toronto, and is currently a Senator representing Ontario. Eggleton, an accountant by profession, was first elected to Toronto city council in 1969. in York-Centre--all three in Toronto--and Georgette Sheridan Georgette Sheridan (born 12 June 1952 in Calgary, Alberta) was a member of the Canadian House of Commons at the Saskatoon—Humboldt electoral district from 1993 to 1997. She is a lawyer, columnist and businessperson by career. in Saskatoon-Humboldt). c) In the summer of 1995, Mr. Chretien threatened not to sign the future nomination papers of four sitting pro-life Liberal MPs. So much for abortion not being a political issue! Also for your information, MPs Augustine, Minna and Eggleton are Catholics, Eggleton being a convert. Augustine, in early October, 1995, ousted her pro-life riding executive with the help of some prominent Catholics in her west Toronto riding. The new president is now Bruce Davis, a member of the national board of Planned Parenthood Planned Parenthood A service mark used for an organization that provides family planning services. . Toronto Star The other editorial opinion came from the Toronto Star when it declared that an abortion is "medically necessary medically necessary Managed care adjective Referring to a covered service or treatment that is absolutely necessary to protect and enhance the health status of a Pt, and could adversely affect the Pt's condition if omitted, in accordance with accepted " when "a woman wants one" (October 16). How about that! These two examples, plus the two opinions culled from the Calgary Herald and the Edmonton Journal (see News in Brief, October 1995, p. 14), demonstrate the intellectual bankruptcy of our (pro-abortion) media. They no longer know where to turn for their justification of abortion. |
