Media do not want the truth.

During the last week of November, 2003, the family issues critic of the then Alliance Party, Larry Spencer, MP for the Regina-Lumsden riding in Saskatchewan, gave an interview to Peter O'Neill of the Vancouver Sun which cost him his position. Spencer expressed the wish that the decades-old drive of homosexual activists for equal "rights" could be turned back. He expressed support for overthrowing Pierre Trudeau's 1969 legalization of homosexual activity which he saw as the beginning of a gradually deteriorating situation which today has led to threatening Canada with so-called homosexual marriage. What bothered him most is that it no longer seems possible to oppose the homosexual juggernaut without being denounced as a weirdo, a dinosaur, a lunatic, a homophobe, and being threatened with legal action. One can no longer even tell the truth, or discuss the facts about the homosexuals, he said.

Mr. Spencer's interview was not well thought out. Trudeau did not legalize homosexuality (done in private between consenting adults) in 1969 because he approved of it, but because the law prohibiting such acts was unenforceable. Laws which are unenforceable are bad law. St. Thomas Aquinas agrees.

What was enforceable was homosexual activity in public. For a while the police attempted to stop that. But the homosexual propagandists had the better of them. None of this could have happened if it had not been for the moral deterioration in family-marital-sexual relationships in the broader society described best as the "permissive society." The key to that wider breakdown of traditional Christian moral teaching was the coming of The Pill (in 1960), and its corollary, the contraceptive mentality.

Once procreation became separated from marriage, the killing of not-yet-born babies, and the lesser evils (in the order of creation) of homosexuality, divorce, pornography, adultery, fornication, all became "acceptable" to society at large. Abortion remains the most brutal fact among these which Parliament, in its lack of wisdom, also legalized in 1969. It remains the most brazen contempt for God's law in the country today.

Mr. Spencer is quite right in saying that with respect to homosexual activity, freedom of speech is now seriously in peril. Indeed, a majority of editorial writers, journalists, columnists, and reporters seem determined to discharge insults against those who do speak the truth.

Without trying to be exhaustive let me note the following:

* The percentage of homosexuals in society is not 10 percent, but less than 2 percent.

* Contrary to newswriters, there is a direct connection between homosexual acts and HIV/AIDS. The original name for HIV/AIDS was GRID (the Gay-Related Immunodeficiency syndrome).

* The blood crisis of two decades ago, which cost Canadians hundreds of millions of dollars and which led to the demise of the Red Cross involvement in the blood banks, was directly related to infected homosexuals giving blood.

* The cost of drugs for AIDS-infected homosexuals paid for by the provinces' health care systems at $150,000 a year per person has passed the six billion per year mark; it may yet ruin national health coverage.

* The idea that providing cheaper drugs for AIDS in Africa is a "solution"--as is so often broadcast--is ludicrous. Drugs prolong life, but do not cure AIDS. The financial burden to Africans will increase, not diminish.

* The much promoted condoms do not improve the AIDS crisis; they worsen it. Sexual abstinence before and outside marriage is the only factor which halts the spread of AIDS.

* Homosexuals are not born that way, and No, there is no scientific proof that homosexuality is innate.

* The sexual abuse of boys, teenagers and young adults--whether among the clergy or society at large--is directly related to the growing acceptability of homosexuality in our time.

* Stability is not a characteristic of the homosexual lifestyle; promiscuity is.

* Violence among homosexuals is much higher than in the rest of society; and their lifespan is much shorter; disease is rife. Why? Because homosexual acts are vile.

* The problem in our schools is not "homophobia" but homophilia, the bland, unthinking acceptance of all the nonsense implied or propagated about the homosexual lifestyle.

* Within society, educators have ignored the duty to point out the difference between unjust (to be avoided) and just (to be supported) discrimination. Public homosexual activity should be repressed, not celebrated.

* Yes, it is possible to love the sinner and hate the sin, despite what the Globe & Mail and others may say; however, in a climate where sinners demand that the rest of us approve their activities, this adage may suffer neglect.

Do Christians despair? We do not; we may be frightened or angered but we trust in God. As St. Paul tells us, "however great the number of sins committed, grace was even greater" (Romans 5:20).
