Media Publisher Announces MediaNet; New Software Infrastructure Solution Creates Live Content Delivery Network for Enterprise Class Webcasting.

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Media Publisher, Inc (MPI MPI - Message Passing Interface ), a pioneering developer of software for business video in the enterprise, today announced the release of MediaNet, a new software tool for delivering enterprise class live webcasts using stand-alone media servers. Initially, the system supports Windows Media Services A set of development tools and server programs from Microsoft for creating and delivering streaming media over the Web and private intranets. It includes utilities to create, convert to and stream the formats from a Windows server.  in Microsoft Server 2003.

MediaNet provides an easy to manage, automated software infrastructure solution that allows customers to leverage new or existing Windows Media Microsoft's audio and video framework for Windows, which embraces playback, encoding and streaming. By leveraging normal server hardware and streaming servers, Media Publisher allows companies to quickly deploy a scalable webcasting platform for enterprise-wide use, without expensive network upgrades. MediaNet is fully integrated into the Media Publisher software platform and its live broadcast publishing workflows.

"MediaNet is a revolutionary new technology that addresses an important need for many of our enterprise customers," said Rod Bacon, co-founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Media Publisher. "While Windows Media has become the technology of choice for enterprise video, it has lacked the publishing, reliability, and failover capabilities that are necessary for large scale management and use. MediaNet fills this critical requirement."

Key Features and Capabilities of MediaNet

Publishing Point Automation

MediaNet automates the creation of publishing points on all streaming servers in a network environment. It supports any route that a stream can take to reach a destination server. It recognizes various roles a streaming server may play in such routes: origin (ingest in·gest

) point, distribution node, or edge node. System administrators are provided with a simple user interface to select origin and destination nodes and MediaNet selects a distribution route. MediaNet allows users to direct content only where it is needed (thus saving bandwidth) by offering the option to select particular edge nodes or groups of edge nodes. MediaNet also provides automatic routing of user requests to the closest streaming media edge server, and failover to the second closest server.

Unicast and Multicast Flexibility

Since many networks are not fully multicast enabled, MediaNet allows an administrator to specify whether a publishing point is capable of supporting multicast or unicast, and provides multicast-to-unicast failover only on designated servers.

Streaming Server Monitoring

MediaNet automatically monitors all streaming servers and displays failure notices immediately if any of the servers fail. This provides administrators with the tools they need to ensure a successful event for the viewing audience.

Failover

MediaNet uses automatically-generated server-side playlists to implement a robust level of failover across the network. Playlists are generated on origin streaming servers, distribution servers, and edge servers to provide automated failover for encoders and streaming servers at all levels.

Multicast Announcement Automation

MediaNet automatically creates multicast announcement files for dynamically-created publishing points on edge servers.

Live Broadcast Workflow

MediaNet provides a simple interface to manage the testing, provisioning, starting, monitoring, stopping, and tearing down of the dynamic streaming network configuration.

Pricing and Availability

MediaNet is available immediately, and is available as an option with the Media Publisher 4.0 Enterprise Edition. Contact the company for pricing details.
