Media Misrepresents Youth.
In recent research by the Berkeley Media Studies Group and the
Justice Policy Institute, youth are more often referred to in news
reports when they are involved in criminal activity. The study results
also indicated youth of color are more likely to be reported as
criminals and less likely as victims of crime. The study evaluated crime
coverage in over seventy newspapers and television news programs. You
can obtain a copy of the report through www.buildingblocksforyouth.org.
