The award as Outstanding Company was recognition linked to Medco Health's development of the world's largest and most technically advanced automated home delivery pharmacy, which opened late last year in Willingboro, N.J., as a complement to its first automated pharmacy in Nevada.

In its first full year of operation, the Willingboro pharmacy dispensed about 20 million prescriptions for Medco Health members. The automated pharmacies are central to Medco Health's "Pharmacy for the Future" initiative, which leverages proprietary technologies to fundamentally improve virtually every aspect of providing pharmacy care. The award was one of three bestowed on Medco Health.

Medco Health's pharmacists shared with their colleagues from five other pharmacy benefit managers the Latiolais Honor Medal, which is given to those displaying exemplary service to the managed healthcare arena. The award was accepted by two Medco Health pharmacists: Tony Russo, director of pharmacy practice Pharmacy practice is the discipline of pharmacy which involves developing the professional roles of pharmacists.

Areas of pharmacy practice include:
  • Disease-state management
 at Medco Health's Parsippany (New Jersey) pharmacy; and Marilyn Wollett, director of pharmacy practice at the company's Dublin, (Ohio) customer service call center pharmacy.
