Russell, a former Bar and Foundation president, will receive the Medal of Honor Award for his "compassion compassion, n a profound awareness of another's suffering coupled with a desire to alleviate that suffering. and undaunting efforts to secure state funding for legal assistance for the poor through the Florida Civil Legal Assistance Act." [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Bell, 93, will receive the award in the nonlawyer category for her "tireless dedication in over four decades of volunteer advocacy to improve the lives of Florida's children, elderly, and the disabled." The Florida Bar Foundation Medal of Honor Award, established in 1977, has two award categories. The first is for a member of The Florida Bar who has demonstrated his or her dedication to the objectives of The Florida Bar as set out in the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar: "to inculcate in·cul·cate tr.v. in·cul·cat·ed, in·cul·cat·ing, in·cul·cates 1. To impress (something) upon the mind of another by frequent instruction or repetition; instill: inculcating sound principles. in its members the principles of duty and service to the public, to improve the administration of justice, and to advance the science of jurisprudence jurisprudence (j r'ĭspr d`əns), study of the nature and the origin and development of law. ." The Medal of Honor may also be awarded
to a member of the public or a lawyer not actively engaged in the
practice of law who has made outstanding achievements in improving the
administration of justice in Florida.
