Meadow Valley Corporation Responds to Another Misleading Announcement From Labor Union Organization.

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 1999--Responding to today's misleading press release by the Building Trades Organizing Project (BTOP), a labor union organization funded by the AFL-CIO that has been targeting heavy construction contractors in Las Vegas with a campaign to force open shop contractors to become unionized, Bradley E. Larson, chief executive officer of MEADOW VALLEY CORPORATION (NASDAQ:MVCO), today said:

"As usual, BTOP failed to do its homework regarding the status of the Spaghetti Bowl interchange project in Las Vegas on which Meadow Valley is prime contractor. Meadow Valley is not now faced with 'late fees' or 'loss of incentive payments' related to a bridge section of the highway interchange. Had BTOP contacted the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to check its information, it would have learned that the completion date is not March 3, 1999, as alleged in the BTOP announcement; rather, the completion date for this first milestone has been extended to no sooner than March 21, 1999. The milestone date may be further extended as there are change orders currently being finalized. This contract extension process is entirely normal, reflecting such factors as weather and changes to the contract. As prime contractor, Meadow Valley currently expects to incur no late charges on the milestone date. BTOP's announcement today is just the latest step in a campaign of intimidation, harassment and misinformation aimed at Meadow Valley and other Las Vegas area contractors that are successfully resisting the union's organizing effort."
