McQuick oven "fries." (recipe)

Potatoes are one of the most nutritionally complete foods on the planet! But when potatoes are cut into thin strips and "deep-fat fried," like most French fries, you wind up with a lot of extra fat that your body doesn't need.

Here's a healthful alternative to fatty French fries from The Math Chef. This recipe takes just ten minutes to prepare and twenty-five minutes to cook. (Always be sure you have an adult to help you when using the oven or a sharp knife.)

What You Need: (serves six)

4 baking potatoes
1 tablespoon
cooking oil
Vegetable oil
cooking spray
1 teaspoon kosher salt
(coarser than regular salt)

What You Do:

1. Preheat oven to 425 [degrees] F.

2. Wash and scrub potatoes. Peel the potatoes and place them on a cutting board.

3. Use a paring knife to slice each potato into 1/4-inch slices. Cut each slice into four long, thin pieces.

4. Place the fries in a medium bowl and toss with the oil.

5. Lightly spray a cookie sheet with vegetable oil spray.

6. Place the fries on the sheet and bake for twenty-five minutes, or until they are golden brown.

7. Use oven mitts to remove the cookie sheet from the oven. Dust the fries with salt and serve.
