McPhail letter, Jan. 2004.It was with great sadness and a strong sense of deja-vu that I read in your current issue the correspondence from Frank and Vivian McPhail regarding the condition of the Church on Vancouver Island Vancouver Island (1991 pop. 579,921), 12,408 sq mi (32,137 sq km), SW British Columbia, Canada, in the Pacific Ocean; largest island off W North America. It is c.285 mi (460 km) long and c. . Like them, my wife and I were converts to Catholicism in the days before the Western world lost its marbles. We share their distress as we witness together the relentless disintegration of things once held dear by most of our contemporary Catholics. A few years ago we contemplated a move to Vancouver Island and after scouting out the terrain we, too, were appalled by the Sunday morning Sunday Morning may refer to:
n. The special atmosphere or mood created by a particular environment: "The noir ambience is dominated by low-key lighting . . . . Retreating into schism is, of course, not a satisfactory solution. Changes in the liturgy, though often distressing, are of course relatively trivial when compared with the real problem. Of grave concern are the concomitant changes in attitudes. Realizing in the early 1970's that the majority of our fellow worshippers no longer shared our faith, we decamped for several years to the Ukrainian branch of the Eastern Byzantine Catholic rite (a marvellous liturgical experience if ever there was one). If the Yellow Pages serve me well, the McPhails may choose to try the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Nicholas at 1112 Caledonia Street, Victoria, BC (telephone: 250-384-2292). Since the issue by our current Pontiff of his letter Ecclesia dei Ecclesia Dei is the motu proprio of 2 July 1988 that Pope John Paul II issued in reaction to the consecration, in spite of an express prohibition by the Holy See, of four bishops by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and Bishop Antônio de Castro Mayer in Ecône, Switzerland, at the seminary , they may also legitimately petition their bishop for the reinstitution of a traditional Tridentine Latin Mass The term Latin Mass refers to the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Mass celebrated in Latin. Specifically, the term is frequently used to denote the Tridentine Mass: that is, the Roman-Rite liturgy of the Mass celebrated in accordance with the successive editions of the Roman in their own neighbourhood. The Coalition In Support of Ecclesia dei, P.O. Box 2071, Glenview. Illinois 60025-6071 are most helpful in this regard. Through efforts such as theirs, a traditional Tridentine Latin Mass is currently available at 12.30 pm. every Sunday at Holy Spirit Church Holy Spirit Church is the name of numerous churches, including:
Despite advancing years, my wife and I routinely drive round-trips from 100 to 200 miles in search of traditional liturgies and their loyal, orthodox, Catholic congregations. They accept Humanae vitae and the sanctity of lifelong marriage (positions abandoned long ago by the bogus cafeteria crowd). They also tend to either homeschool home·school or home-school v. home·schooled, home·school·ing, home·schools v.tr. To instruct (a pupil, for example) in an educational program outside of established schools, especially in the home. their children or enroll them in suitable private academies. Over a 19-year period, I doubled my daily round-trip commuting to work from 50 to 100 miles. This was to guarantee my children the benefit of a so-called Catholic education. Publications such as The Catholic School in an Age of Dissent by Leonard Kennedy C.S.B. and Salvation Redefined by Lorene Collins were unfortunately published much too late to save our children whose faith died in the separate school system. Please, reject schism and join us in the fight. We will pray for you. Graham and Wendy Bellamy Guelph, ON |
